Season’s Greetings from the Steering Group, Animators, and staff of IFIwatchnet!
2007 has been an important year in the development of IFIwatchnet. This issue of our newsletter outlines some of the technological advances, the main one being the switch to a Drupal operating system. The site is now more interactive, more user-friendly, and easier to update as new features become available. We hope that our member organizations are exploring the new capacities of IFIwatchnet. If you haven’t yet taken a look around the new site, you can read >here< and >here< about some of the changes [links to previous newsletters or announcements of Drupal etc.].

Among the new features on IFIwatchnet is the blog, which can be read by anyone, and can receive contributions from anyone with a login and password (if you need one, or have lost track of yours, contact Ines Campanella, inescamp@item.org.uy). With the blog, IFIwatchnet has become a forum for the exchange of information and opinions on a more informal basis. It’s been widely-used at moments of heightened interest, such as the IMF/World Bank annual meetings, or in examining how the IMF would go about replacing its Managing Director. But it’s available any time, and is a great vehicle for getting your message, or your opinion, out fast. You can also comment on most of the postings made by bloggers.
The potential of the blog sums up the possibilities of IFIwatchnet as it evolves. At a meeting of the Steering Group, Animators, and staff in Uruguay in April, we got excited about the potential for IFIwatchnet as a meeting-place for campaigners, experts, journalists, and random web-surfers with an interest in the issues. The new flexibility made possible by Drupal and the “web 2.0” innovations of the last few years allows us to include more voices, cover more issues, and reach more potential users.
Some of the other features that have been added include a wiki, where members can do collective editing of documents (www.ifiwatchnet.org/wiki), and a revamped “shared area” discussion space.
IFIwatchnet has a lot of potential. But we know we haven’t quite crossed that invisible threshold where the site becomes a daily, or weekly, “must-visit” for anyone concerned with international development. To get there, we need more regular traffic, more regular contributions, no matter how informal. It’s the classic chicken-and-egg situation, where we need active people to attract more active people to the site. We think a small investment from you – visiting the site on a regular basis, thinking of what information you can post or news or commentary you can share – will pay off in big benefits for you and the whole IFI-watching community. Join us, and make 2008 the year that IFIwatchnet becomes the genuine meeting-place for progressive views on international development!

Campaigns website - New IFIWatchnet feature!!
"Campaign-in-a-box” is a new, thrilling tool which allows activists to jump-start their campaigns by establishing an immediate web presence. To create a campaign you need to log in the campaigns section. Creating a new account is very easy, all you have to do is click here, enter your details, and a password will be immediately send to your inbox. Once logged in you may change the password. The structure of the site is very similar to IFIwatchnet. Check it out online user manual and feel free to contact us contact us for doubts or technical advice. Add your own campaigns!

Welcome to new members!
The IFIwatchnet team would like to introduce to our community two brand new Asian IFIwatchers, Coastal Development Partnership (CDP) and BanglaPraxis, who have been recently added to our lists.
Coastal Development Partnership (CDP) has been working since 1997, raising people’s voice of Southwest Coastal Region and Ganges Dependent Area of Bangladesh for sustainable development and is a current member of the NGO Forum on the ADB.
BanglaPraxis is a collective of development activists located in Bangladesh. It has been monitoring IFIs since 2003, is a member of NGO Forum on ADB, and works closely with BIC, International Rivers, and others.
Welcome CDP and BanglaPraxis, and hope to collaborate together!

Saludos del Comité Coordinador, Animadores, y el equipo de IFIwatchnet!
2007 ha sido un año importante en el desarrollo de IFIwatchnet. Esta edición de nuestro boletín destaca algunos de los desarrollos técnicos aplicados, siendo el principal de ellos la migración hacia Drupal, un nuevo administrador de contenido. El sitio es ahora más interactivo y “amigable con el usuario”, así como más fácil de actualizar, a medida que nuevas herramientas se ponen a disposición del usuario.
Esperamos que nuestras organizaciones miembro estén explorando las nuevas capacidades de IFIwatchnet. Si aún no lo has hecho, echa un vistazo al nuevo sitio, puedes informarte aquí y aquí sobre los cambios realizados.
Entre las nuevos atributos de IFIwatchnet, se encuentra el blog, el cual puede ser leído por cualquier visitante del sitio, y recibir contribuciones de cualquiera con un nombre de usuario y una contraseña (si necesitas una, o has perdido la tuya, contacta a Inés Campanella). A través del blog, IFIwatchnet se ha convertido en un foro para el intercambio informal de opiniones e información. Ha sido ampliamente usado en momentos de alto interés y debate, como las reuniones anuales del FMI/Banco Mundial o el análisis acerca del reemplazo del Director del FMI. El blog está disponible en todo momento, y es un gran vehículo para hacer conocer tu mensaje u opinión rápidamente. También puedes comentar la mayoría de los postings realizados por los bloggers.
El potencial del blog sintetiza las posibilidades de IFIwatchnet, a medida que evoluciona. En una reunión del Comité Coordinador, Animadores, y equipo de trabajo, realizada en Abril en Uruguay, nos entusiasmamos acerca del potencial de IFIwatchnet como lugar de encuentro para activistas, expertos, periodistas, y navegadores de la web con interés en los temas tratados en el sitio. La nueva flexibilidad provista por Drupal, y las innovaciones propias de la “web 2.0” registradas en los últimos años, nos permiten incluir más voces, cubrir más tópicos, y alcanzar más potenciales usuarios. Algunas de las herramientas que han sido incluidas, incluyen un wiki, en el cual los miembros pueden editar colectivamente documentos, y una renovada “shared area”, espacio privado de discusión para miembros.
IFIwatchnet exhibe un gran potencial. Sin embargo, sabemos que aún no hemos cruzado ese umbral invisible, por medio de la cual el sitio se convierte en una visita obligada, diaria o semanal, para todo aquel con interés en temáticas de desarrollo internacional. Para llegar allí, necesitamos contar con más tráfico, mayor cantidad de contribuciones regulares, sin importar su informalidad. Es el clásico dilema del huevo y la gallina, en el cuál necesitamos contribuyentes activos para atraer más visitantes al sitio. Pensamos que una pequeña colaboración de tu parte – visitando el sitio regularmente, pensando en qué información puedes postear, o qué comentarios o información puedes compartir – redundará en grandes beneficios para ti y para toda la comunidad de IFIwatchers.
¡Únete a nosotros y haz que IFIwatchnet se convierta en 2008 en el genuino lugar de encuentro de perspectivas avanzadas sobre desarrollo internacional!

Sitio de campañas - Nueva herramienta de IFIWatchnet!
"Campaign-in-a-box” es una nueva y excitante herramienta que permite a activistas lanzar su campaña, mediante una inmediata presencia en la web. Para crear una campaña, debes previamente registarte en la sección de campañas. Crear una nueva cuenta es muy sencillo, solo tienes que hacer click aquí e ingresar tus detalles, y una contraseña será inmediatamente enviada a tu casilla de e-mail. Una vez registrado, puedes cambiar la contraseña provista. La estructura del sitio de campañas es muy similar a la de IFIwatchnet. `Puedes consultar un manual de usuario online (en inglés), y contactarnos por dudas o ayuda técnica. Nos complacerá ayudarte. !Agrega tus propias campañas!

Recibimos nuevos miembros!
El equipo de IFIwatchnet quiere presentar a nuestra comunidad dos nuevos IFIwatchers provenientes de Asia, Coastal Development Partnership (CDP) y BanglaPraxis, los cuales han sido recientemente incorporados en nuestras listas.
Coastal Development Partnership (CDP) ha trabajado activamente desde 1997, haciendo escuchar las voces de los habitantes de la región suroeste de la costa y área dependiente del Ganges de Bangladesh en pro del desarrollo sustentable; y es un miembro actual de NGO Forum on the ADB.
BanglaPraxis es un colectivo de activistas por el desarrollo, situado en Bangladesh. Ha monitoreado las IFIs desde el 2003, es miembro de NGO Forum on the ADB, y trabaja en conjunto con BIc, IRN y otros
