IFIWatchnet, the leading community of organisations and individuals monitoring international development and working for change.

IFIwatchnet is a global network of organisations and individuals who monitor, analyse and report on international financial institutions (IFIs) such as the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, and the regional development banks. IFIwatchnet has over 60 member organizations from 27 different countries in every region of the world.

Programmes and loans designed and controlled by IFIs powerfully shape the economic trajectories of many countries in the Global South. The World Bank Group alone channels over USD 25 billion in loans and grants each year to low and middle-income countries. Yet the institutions suffer from serious flaws in governance, accountability and transparency, and promote controversial projects and policies which often have detrimental impacts on people and the environment.

IFIwatchnet was founded to disseminate independent and critical perspectives on the international financial institutions, and to facilitate contact among "IFI-watchers." IFIwatchnet's content directly challenges the investments that IFIs have made in promoting their priorities.

IFIwatchnet objectives:

• Pool independent information and media about IFIs from a broad range of civil society sources;

• Strengthen communications and build relationships among IFI-watchers;

• Increase the efficiency and effectiveness of IFI-watching organisations through new information sharing strategies.

IFIWatchnet doesn't promote the views of any single organisation - content is submitted directly by participants. If you or your organisation do policy or advocacy work related to the IFIs please sign up to contribute: http://www.ifiwatchnet.org/?q=en/user/register. For video networking, go directly to http://www.ifiwatch.tv and contact eyes@ifiwatchnet.org for queries.

You don’t need to have a website to get involved. IFIwatchnet also provides services to enable organisations without websites to increase their web profile. Give it a try!

Also, if your organisation does not produce information on the IFIs but has a website which covers related issues, for example environment, development, debt, human rights, private finance etc, you may wish to feature a feed of IFI-related events, documents, videos or news on your site. Please contact info@ifiwatchnet.org for details.
